Wedding First Dance Crash Course

Whether you’re planning your own nuptials or booking weekend trips to attend another couple’s weddings, we’ve got the perfect crash course to get you feeling comfortable on the dance floor.

In these 90-minute workshops, you’ll learn a basic pattern along with an entrance, some turns and a couple of different dips. If there’s time, we’ll even piece together some short choreography. We’ll focus on moves that typically work well in first dance songs, so there’s a good chance you’ll be able to repurpose them to fit with your song. At the very least, you’ll have a foundation for dancing during the wedding reception…or that upcoming Bar Mitzvah, or any other function that happens to include a dance party!

No dance experience required. Kira Stein, who also teaches at our sister company, Philly Dance Fitness, will give you all the background you need to know to lead and follow in these jam-packed crash courses. While the focus is on partner dancing, that doesn’t mean you can’t join in if you’re unattached. Singles will partner up with each other or the instructors.

We do not currently have any crash courses planned at this time, stay tuned for updates. Meanwhile, here’s an example of a swing crash course we offered in the past:

  • Swing Into Spring Social Dance Crash Course
    • Learn the basics of six-count swing, a more informal, upbeat partner dance that fits well with Motown, jazz and even some pop songs. Once you’ve mastered those steps, you’ll layer in spins, kicks, dips and more. If there’s time, you may even piece together a short choreography.

    • Midtown Village, 1301 Locust St. 2nd Floor
  • $25 per person or $50 per couple
  • Low/moderate intensity | Beginner friendly

Please bring the shoes you plan to wear at your wedding (or when attending a social dance function) so you can practice dancing in them during the workshop. If you don’t have them yet, anything similar will do the trick — smooth-soled dress shoes, heels or flats, depending on what you plan to wear while dancing.

Your electronic receipt serves as your ticket. Bring a printout to the workshop or show it on your mobile device.
